Media coverage 2009:

The Hydropower Africa 2009 conference received unprecedented media coverage with countless TV and radio news and actuality programmes. Sponsors, exhibitors, speakers as well as power industry expert and former editor of the host publication of the event, Nicholas McDiarmid, appeared on Enews Channel, CNBC Africa, SABC2, SABC3 and SABC News International and SABC radio. Several journalists from press agencies and online publications, amongst others, also attended the event.

Hydropower is a topical issue with the utilities industry looking for more renewable sources of energy. Said Nicholas on the E Tv’s 24-hour news channel: “For South Africa, hydropower is extremely important in terms of importing power from our neighbouring countries and the Southern African region. The potential of hydropower on the continent is huge. At present we only employ about 10% of the continent’s available hydropower. In essence, we one looks at implementing full-scale hydropower projects in the long term, it is a source of energy that could power the entire continent and then some. We could even be exporting to Europe in time.”
